www.geek.com -  On Monday two judges in two separate copyright violation lawsuits came to opposite conclusions regarding the legality of sharing music files on peer-to-peer (P2P) networks. In a case in Boston against a group of students, Judge Nancy Gertner concluded that copyright infringement does not occur from just allowing files to reside where they are accessible by others on the Internet. Conversely, Judge Kenneth Karras in a case in New York, found that placing files in an area they can be shared with others may end up in illegal publication and therefore copyright violation.
